Show Review: Charlie Puth

From diction to autotune, music today can sometimes become muddled and listeners are never quite sure what they’re going to experience at a live show. However, those who attended Charlie Puth’s sold out show at Bogarts, experienced just what they had hoped for and then some.

The 24 year old singer/songwriter took us on a journey through his recently released album, Nine Track Mind, with songs like ‘One Call Away’ and ‘Dangerously’ .“The album [Nine Track Mind] reflects me as a person by showing how closed off yet open I can be with people,” he says. “Even though I don’t appear shy times at times, I do consider myself to be a pretty shy person. This is very personal music and I’m opening myself up by sharing it with the world.” Throughout the show, Charlie took the time to address the crowd and share the personal story tied to certain songs.

Keeping the crowd engaged, Charlie slipped in his most popular pieces including ‘We don’t talk anymore’ featuring Selena Gomez and ‘See You Again’ by Wiz Khalifa. Of course Gomez and Khalifa weren’t there, but Charlie’s voice carried its own and swooned the room. Spicing things up a bit, Charlie showed off his beatboxing skills during his performance of ‘Marvin Gaye’.

His wardrobe, a white tee and ripped jeans, didn’t quite muster up to the melodies he played along the piano or the notes he hit with ease but that was just the point. “...I go onstage in a white T-shirt and jeans, because I want the audience to look at me as a regular person but to be overwhelmed by the music. And I want them to be inspired to do exactly what I’m doing — following their dreams,” says Charlie.

The crowd ate up every song sung and every word spoken. Every corner of Bogart’s was filled with the screams of fans. You would’ve thought that Justin Bieber was on the stage.  Puth’s handsome looks, smooth voice and relatable lyrics set up the perfect equation for an enthralling performance.

With only a 12 track album and 0 covers, it made for a short show, however it was nothing short of talent. I walked into the show enjoying a few songs by Charlie Puth and walked out a complete fan.
