Rock N’ Revival for a Cure at The Southgate House Revival

During September 2015, the Forsthoefel brothers in The Grove were shaken by the news that their beloved father, John, was diagnosed with brain cancer. Yes, this has been a scare, but now they are more than ready to give back to those ready to fight and find a cure. The Grove has put together the ‘Rock N’ Revival for a Cure’ event at The Southgate House Revival with the help of CincyMusic.comRhinegeist BreweryUC Health, and 13 other amazing bands. All proceeds benefit the UC Brain Tumor Center and their research for finding a cure.

We sat down with Adam of The Grove, prior to the benefit on Saturday, March 5th at The Southgate House Revival!

Putting together a Benefit Show is a daunting task. What prompted you to do so?
Over the past few months, my Dad has been battling with brain cancer and it has not been easy. He was diagnosed back in September. I wanted to put something together where I felt I was making a difference using the skills/talents I have. I also want to live in an era where there is an easier defined cure for diseases such as brain cancer. I thought the best way to do this would be to put together a benefit. Nothing would make me more happy than to see this become an annual event where people continuously want to give back and support brain cancer research through music. I believe there needs to be more events specifically supporting this disease. I thought the best way to see more events like this was to start one myself.

What do you hope to come out of the event?
I want two things:
1. Awareness for how serious brain cancer is and how important it is to continue our research
2. I would like to see the musicians in Cincinnati working together for something bigger than just a local Cincinnati Rock Show. I found this as a great opportunity to show how artists in our community can give back to something so important.

I feel like in Cincinnati, bands often jump at the chance to help each other out. Do you feel that was the case for this event?
Absolutely. The amount of support I received was amazing. I wish I could honestly add more to the lineup however we only have so much time for this event. Bands were quick to confirm and never asked for money understanding that this is a charitable event. I find that highly respectable from the local Cincinnati Musicians.

After this benefit show, what is next for The Grove?
We are currently in the process of mixing a Live Alum we recorded at The Northside Tavern. We hope to have it released by this March 5 show! We also are heading back to the studio and recording an EP that we hope to release next Fall with a new video (or two). We are recording at the same studio Lemon Sky and Pop Goes the Evil recorded at. We also will continue to keep playing shows around the Cincinnati area as much as we can.
