Free Hugs - A Benefit for Oyler School

Local music community hosts a benefit show for Oyler Music Programs, Sunday, October 25 at The Crows Nest. 12 p.m.-1 a.m.

Taking inspiration from Devonte Hart, the young boy who famously held up a sign offering Free Hugs during the unrest resulting from the rioting in Ferguson, Missouri this summer, local musician Moose Gronholm, came up with the idea to put together a benefit in the spirit of community.  Gronholm, along with local artist Beth Brackman and a host of local musicians have put together an excellent day of performances, a pot luck dinner, silent auction and raffles, all to benefit Lower Price Hill’s, Oyler Community School.  The Oyler Glee Club will even be performing at the event at 5:30.

Performers include; Tie Dyes, Jared Schaedle, Hu Town Holler, John Ford, Heather Hamlet, Easy Tom Eby, Wilder (Kelly Thomas, teacher at Oyler and Glee Club Vocal Coach’s band), G. Burton, Harlot, Daniel Van Vechten, Tim Caudill, Willow Tree Carolers, and Dead Man String Band.

In a Facebook message, Devonte Hart’s mother posted a picture of a banner made by Devonte and his family they will be sending to the benefit along with a donation.  Hart was excited to learn that his small act of kindness has spread to others and inspired them to reach out to folks in their own community.

If people are unable to attend but would like to make a donation, checks can be mailed to The Hatmaker Foundation, c/o Oyler School, 2121 Hatmaker Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45204.  Please put “Glee Club” in the memo.
