Get to Know Brent James & The Vintage Youth

After a move to Cincinnati, Brent was introduced to his band fittingly named, The Vintage Youth. The bands first show was with longtime supporter Ted Nugent and they’ve been touring since. They’ve shared the stage and/or toured with the aforementioned as well as The Cadillac Three, Eric Church, Daughtry, Huey Lewis, Foreigner, Candlebox, American Aquarium, Buckcherry, Walk Off The Earth, Robin Trower and more. With 2 Ep’s released, the bands much anticipated debut full length will hit stores August 4, 2015. Their songs are engulfed in truth, life, loss and finding your own space in a crowded world.

Tell us about the writing / recording process for the Download of the Week song, “Sorry”…
Well I wrote the tune back in December.  We found ourselves out on the road with Daughtry for a string of dates and got to know those boys.  Brian Craddock who plays guitar for Daughtry dug the tune.  We had a day off and we all went out to a bar in Detroit and Brian asked me if we'd be interested in recording "Sorry" at SUN Records.  He thought that room would be perfect to cut it in.  I told him if he could make that happen, absolutely.  It's always been a dream to record there.  So about a month later we found ourselves down in Memphis recording at SUN.  It was surreal.  As far as the songwriting process, I don't really recall where any of the songs I write come from to be honest.  I suppose they are vague memories that become clear to me once I pick up the guitar and search for a melody.  Or it could stem from an idea/riff that Ricky, Matt or Nick has in the rehearsal space and we jump on that and let it take us where it wants.  Here's a link to the "Sorry" video.

What is next for Brent James & The Vintage Youth?
Right now we have a pretty cool feature running on GAC (Great American Country).  It airs all summer and into the fall.  It's to promote the release of our new record Out Where We Roam in which you'll find "Sorry" on.  We have some great shows coming up with our pals the Cadillac Three, REO Speedwagon and more.  We will be on the main Buffalo Chip Stage August 5th at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally out in South Dakota.

We go on right before Social Distortion and John Fogerty.  You can also see our brand new video for "Motorcycle Church" at this link.  Kelby Ray from the Cadillac Three played lap steel and killed it.

We plan on keeping on the road as much as possible and playing to as many people that'll listen.  Our Cincinnati release will be at Bogart’s on August 29th.  I'd also like to say a special thanks to our brother Joe Dunlap with whom we recorded the record.  He's a good bud and has a great ear.  Come hang with us August 29th CincyMusic readers!
