Ryan Culwell Set to Play The Southgate House Revival

Ryan Culwell grew up in a forgotten place. His songs were forged in the great void that is the panhandle of Texas, The Great In-Between, a land so desolate that few even thought to settle there until oil was discovered beneath the emptiness. And the solitude of the plains comes pouring out of him when he opens his mouth to sing. Like an approaching dust storm, Culwell’s songs whisper and howl and embed the dirt of the flatlands deep into your skin.

Ryan Culwell just released his first album in more than 8 years, Flatlands on Lightning Rod Records (Jason Isbell, Amanda Shires, Billy Joe Shaver, Joe Pug).

Ann Powers of NPR Music caught one of Culwell's sets at SXSW and said, "His songs themselves wring grace from plain and often dark details, expressing the realities of class and region in ways that many other writers barely touch. Here was a working man, a working musician, delivering his best. It was a star turn, no matter how many people witnessed it."

Culwell is opening for Hayes Carll at The Southgate House Revival on Tuesday, June 23rd! 7p Doors / 8p Show. Go grab tickets HERE!
