LUMENOCITY Amplified

Accessibility to and engagement with LUMENOCITY 2014 will be significantly amplified thanks to a responsive website, app and social media visualizer being developed and produced by Topic Design, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s digital engagement partner for the wildly popular event.

Whether in attendance at Washington Park for the 3-night event, at one of the many offsite locations providing live simulcasts, or even at home, anyone with an internet connected smartphone, tablet or computer can access these features simply by going to LUMENOCITY2014.com. The new website will be unveiled on Thursday, July 31 to coincide with the Orchestra’s dress rehearsal for the concert, and on Friday, August 1 Topic will launch an interactive mobile app.

“We are thrilled to partner with the CSO and be involved with LUMENOCITY,” said Chris Witham, founding partner at Topic. “We anticipate that our contributions will serve to enhance the experience for all, and moreover, that we are able to bring much needed attention to the Save Our Icons campaign through them. After all, this event wouldn’t be possible without that big, beautiful building.”

The new website will enable visitors to watch the live LUMENOCITY simulcast, as well as follow real-time social media activity via an integrated Twitter and Instagram feed that pulls any tweet or gram including the hash tag #lumenocity. Additionally, the website will provide other event relevant information on the CSO, the conductors and compositions, the companies responsible for the creative strategies, design, projection and activations, and more. There will likewise be opportunities for visitors to donate to the Orchestra’s annual fund via a Text2Give function, as well as purchase tickets for future CSO events.

To access the web app using a smartphone:

  1. Go to Lumenocity2014.com.
  2. Follow the prompt to bookmark the site to your home screen.
  3. Close your browser.
  4. Tap on the app icon that is added to your home screen.
  5. Navigate the app’s content and features.

When accessing the website via a smartphone, visitors will be prompted to bookmark the site. In doing so, a reconfigured version of the website becomes available in the same manner in which a native app would--by way of an icon being added to your home screen. From here visitors will have access to the same content as the website, but during the performance Topic will be pushing dynamic onscreen elements that will enhance the event experience, especially for those who will be in attendance at Washington Park. The app will also include a dynamic map for LUMENOCITY Village and its many arts and food vendors, a pre and post LUMENOCITY schedule of additional performers, and more.

“We are excited about this new addition to the LUMENOCITY experience,” said Chris Pinelo, Vice President of Communications for the CSO. “This easy-to-use app will deepen the engagement with fans present at Washington Park and watching around the region and around the world through the live webstream of the concert. LUMENOCITY is guided by the spirit of experimentation, and this app will provide an additional element of community that breaks the barriers between performers and audience members.”
