School of Rock Mason has been invited back to play at Summerfest in Milwaukee, the world’s largest music festival. Last year it sent one band to play at the festival. This year it is sending three bands to play the festival on Saturday June 28 and Sunday June 29. Summerfest opens June 25 and runs through July 6. More than 900,000 people are expected to attend during that time. More than 800 acts will play across 11 permanent stages in the 75-acre Henry Maier Park that sits next to Lake Michigan in Milwaukee. Festival headliners include Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Motley Crue, Dave Matthews Band, Fall Out Boy, and Paramore. Learn more about Summerfest at

Sixteen students will make up the three bands that will represent School of Rock Mason. The students performing will be Jacob Snow, Jessica Bennett, Jake Nelson, Bryan Lewis, Jack Davidson, and Duncan MacKenzie of Mason High School; Brandon Bihn of Lakota East High School; Grace McGregor of Lakota West High School; Caroline Joseph of Lakota Ridge Junior School; Nick Hazelbaker of Little Miami Junior High School; Derek Johnson of Ross Middle School; Cole Clanahan of Miamisburg High School; Jonah Simpson of Montessori School of Dayton; Christina Gabrielle of the School of Creative & Performing Arts; Cody Winn of Williamsburg High School; and Daisi Howard of Carlisle High School.

The three bands will participate in a giant School of Rock Battle of the Bands, which will feature 59 bands from 35 Schools of Rock coming from 15 states and Canada. The bands will be judged by 11 luminaries from the music business, including Earl Slick (guitarist for David Bowie and John Lennon), Metal Mike (guitarist for Halford), Jimmy Chamberlain (drummer for Smashing Pumpkins), James Williamson (guitarist for The Stooges), and Jim Peterik (guitarist from Survivor and co-writer of “Eye Of The Tiger”). Preliminary rounds will be held on Saturday June 28 and Sunday June 29, with the finals being held on Sunday June 29 at 5pm on the BMO Harris Pavilion, the second-largest venue at Summerfest.
