The Mitchells Set to Release First Full-length Album

The Mitchells, a Cincinnati Indie favorite, will release their first album locally on May 31st, 2014, featuring the dynamic, orchestral sound for which the group is admired. The album will also showcase local heavyweight musicians, such as renowned guitarist, Noah Wotherspoon; up and coming Nashville singer/songwriter The Red Headed Indian (Caroline Kingsbury); and mandolin/banjo playing local-stalwart Tim Golliher; along with other fellow local musicians.

In one sense, the album is over a year in the making, in that it is the collective’s first studio recording since their 2013 debut EP, The Birdfeather EP, which put the band into a year’s worth of gigs that included Cincinnati’s MidPoint Music Festival and a slot on the 2nd annual Bunbury Music Festival.

The Mitchells is their first long player and it captures the dynamic essence of the band, reflecting the connection the group shares on stage and in performance. This natural reflection of song performance, knowing when to be the focal voice and when to simply support within each piece, is a testament to their musicianship and understanding.

The album took shape over 13 months, beginning with a songwriting recording session in February of 2013, in the rural setting which is the All Nighter Studio in Lebanon, Ohio.  Facing tight schedules and band member migrations and changes, some of the tracking was recorded in the comforts of our own homes, including the home our new guitarist, Marc Aiello who engineered these sessions, with Tommy Cappel later mixing/mastering.

The album represents a maturation of the quartet of Joseph William Mitchell, Marc Aiello, Carlos Mitchell, and Nicholas Mavridoglou, clearly heard on the song Absalom, and as a whole album. An even more collaborative approach than previously attempted is showcased with simple melodies being brought forward, a focus on the spaces between each instrument and voice, and storytelling underline the finished product.

Having finished the album, The Mitchells are in full gear preparing for it’s summer of shows including a special May 31st, album release performance at The Monastery in East Walnut Hills run by Ric Hordinski.  The band, Englishman, of Lexington, Kentucky will also be performing the night of the release, along with some visual artists showing their work.  A thoughtful, artistic event, to be sure.
