As one of the highest selling independent artists on the music scene today, Pope has sold over 1.5 million singles, achieving nationwide and international success. His singles have been featured on NBC’s “The Voice,” CW’s “Vampire Diaries” and “90210” and multiple seasons of FOX’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” which sent two of his albums into the top 100 on iTunes simultaneously.  He recently was honored by premier digital music distributor TuneCore, where he has released 10 albums and 25 singles including one of his biggest hits, “A Drop in the Ocean.”

On the international touring front, Pope recently played sold out shows across Europe and Australia. In January 2014 he returned to Glasgow, Belfast, Manchester, Dublin, Sheffield, Nottingham, London, Bristol, Hamburg, Malmo, Gothenburg, Oslo, Stockholm, Berlin, Amsterdam, Cologne, Frankfurt, and Munich alongside artists Wakey! Wakey! and Alexz Johnson.

Ron Pope is on his way to The Southgate House Revival tonight and I had the chance to chat with him before the show.

Give us some backstory on Ron Pope…
In 1985, when I was a high school student in Hill Valley, California, I met an eccentric scientist by the name of Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown. Doc built a time machine out of a DeLorean and together we went back to 1955; hilarity ensued. Actually, that's Back To The Future, but I already wrote it down, so I'm sticking with that as my answer. Next question.

What can one expect to see at a Ron Pope show?
I think the surprise at our shows for a lot of people is that we're a rock band. I'm running around, playing electric guitar and getting sweaty. When you come to see us, my goal is for you to leave hoarse from singing along at the top of your lungs. At the end of the day, I'm just trying to give people an experience that's on par with or better than my albums. I want you to go home and say, "That was one hell of a show; I can't wait until he comes back to town." I know that people have to make a lot of arrangements to come to a show; some need to get off of work, others need permission from their parents, babysitters for their kids, someone to drive them, money for tickets, and a million other things that vary from fan to fan. It means a lot to me that people are willing to spend their time and money to see us perform, so I'm doing my best to put on a great show every single night.

Highlight of your career thus far?
Every day when people show up at my gigs is a serious highlight. I used to play in dive bars where no one wanted to hear me; putting a tour on sale and then having people buy the tickets and show up is incredible. On this tour, every night is like magic.

What is next for Ron Pope?
I just released a brand new album, Calling Off The Dogs. We're in the middle of a world tour that started in Europe, then came over to America. We'll be going back and forth between the States and Europe with visits to a few other places around the world over the course of the next year. Right now, my goal is to promote this album to the best of my ability. That locks me up until at least the end of this year; beyond that, we'll see!
