T. Hardy Morris playing at tSGHR on Sunday!

Ambitious. Dedicated. These are the first two words that come to mind when familiarizing myself with T. Hardy Morris.

Morris should be nicknamed The Hardest Working Man in Song Business! He spent the last year dividing time between two bands, yet still managed to begin his first solo project. He’s a respected voice of psychedelic grunge and, since 2006, the frontman of Dead Confederate. His joint venture, Diamond Rugs, includes members of Black Lips, Deer Tick, Los Lobos and Six Finger Satellite. Oh, wait, did I say dedicated? When asked to open for Bad Books, he even toured with his new bride as part of his honeymoon a few years ago! This “honeymoon tour” sparked his solo venture. Morris said, “I hadn’t played solo very often at that point, so I was just doing a few back pocket songs and Dead Confederate songs. The shows went fine, but I wasn’t totally happy so I started writing some more stripped down songs with that ‘solo’ vibe in mind.”

Versatile. Gifted. These are the other two words that come to mind when experiencing his music.

Morris penned a collection of songs that incorporates the best qualities of his group projects while infusing a more subdued alt-country sound. Audition Tapes showcases Morris’ considerable depth as a songwriter while depicting his vast experiences as a touring musician. He’s toured extensively over the last 6 years with acts such as Meat Puppets, Dinosaur Jr., Deer Tick, Manchester Orchestra, Drive By Truckers and more. The sessions behind Audition Tapes came to be with the help of a variety of Morris' talented circle of friends who "dropped by" to lend a hand, including Delta Spirit's Matt Vasquez, Black Lips/Diamond Rugs guitarist Ian Saint Pe, drummer Julian Dorio (The Whigs), steel guitarist Matt "Pistol" Stossel, and keyboardist Thayer Serrano. Audition Tapes will be released July 30, 2013 on Dangerbird Records, but in the mean time, come further familiarize yourself with this devoted and gifted singer/songwriter Sunday at Southgate House Revival! Bonus: Both Serrano and Stossel will join Morris live for this show!
