The Heights Music Festival Recap

Wow! Once again The Heights Music Festival 2013 blessed our city with an outstanding weekend of musical entertainment.

The sweet sound of local music was in the air on Friday at the Heights Music Fest 2013 in Clifton. The Freebees kicked off the festivities at Rohs Street Cafe in front of a tight nit & very energetic crowd. They were followed up by MC Forty, who may have had the set of the night, lighting up the stage with a skillful performance that had hip hoppers and non-hip hoppers alike bobbing their head to the music. Witty rhymes, an occasional beat box and engaging performances were liberally laced throughout a set highlighted with guest shots from percussionist Jordin (The Freebees and The Yugos) and lyricist Audley.

The Newt fired off a blazing set at Christy's Biergarten. Tight rhythms and horns were woven together to create the perfect sonic tapestry for lead singer Bethany's, sultry & smooth vocals. And guitarist Poe Coyote brought fierce guitar skills and a stage presence reminiscent of The Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea.

On Saturday, Koala Fires kicked of the night at Mac's Pizza Pub with a tight set of high-spirited indie rock. Baoku and The Image Afrobeat Band brought the house down at Christy's Biergarten. The intense Nigerian singer, percussionist & band leader grabbed the crowd by its collective throat and never let go as he and the band lay down a performance that kept the crowd dancing throughout the entire set. The Almighty Get Down followed up with an equally energetic, crowd moving set of rock inspired funky rhythms. The Killtones batted cleanup at Christy's with straight ahead  rock and roll. LZRPNY and HORSECOP lit up the stage at Baba Budan's. And MJ's Blues kept the crowd at Mac's grooving with their bluesy blend of soul and R&B

The Heights Music Festival is an amazing event that showcases both established and emerging acts in the Cincinnati music scene. Whether  you're a seasoned fan of local music or neophyte on the music scene, the Heights Music Festival 2013 provides a amazing opportunity to see and hear great local talent. The quality of the acts, the insanely low ticket price, and the close proximity of the venues make this festival an absolute hit for music fans of any age or experience. A shout out of peace and love is due to all of this years participants. The organizers, volunteers, venues, bands and fans all came together to produce a successful weekend filled with awesome entertainment and musical discovery. We'll have to wait a year for the next Heights Music Festival, but the smart money says it'll be worth the wait.
