Tickets to all 2012 World Choir Games events go on sale to the public at 10 am Thursday, March 1 – just more than four months before the start of the event.
The World Choir Games, the largest international choral competition in the world, will be in the United States for the first time ever July 4-14 in Cincinnati USA. To date, 367 choirs from 48 countries have registered to participate in the 7th World Choir Games.
“This is a big milestone,” said Dan Lincoln, President & CEO of the Cincinnati USA Convention & Visitors Bureau and director of the Cincinnati Organizing Committee. “Many people have been asking me when they can buy tickets. The time is now.”
Tickets to the July 4 Opening Ceremony presented by Procter & Gamble, featuring the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and May Festival Chorus, range from $25-$150. Tickets to the July 14 Closing Ceremony range from $20-$50. Celebration Concerts, themed shows with some of the best choirs in the world, will be range from $28-$42, Champions Concerts $35-60 and Awards Ceremonies $15 and $20.
Competition tickets are available in One-day ($15) and Three-day ($40) Flex Passes, which allow ticketholders entry into all venues as seating is available. One-day Competition Flex Passes are available for July 5, 6, 7, 11, 12 and 13. Three-day Competition Flex Passes are available for July 5-7 and July 11-13.
“The task of assigning choirs to rehearsals, competition times and venues is complex,” said Jelena Dannhauer, project manager for INTERKULTUR, the Germany-based organization that founded the World Choir Games. “We are still processing choir registrations, so we won’t have the schedule set for a few months. One thing we have learned from doing this over the years is that there will be a lot of changes. We’re prepared for that.”
There are 23 musical categories of competition, ranging from jazz and show choir to gospel and folklore that will be performed over six days (three in each week). Specific times, locations and choir schedules will be announced closer to the event.
