Good/cheap local recording studios?
Are there any good and cheap local recording studios? I'd like to do recording for a CD, and I don't have any money to spend, really, but I'd still like to have a quality end product.

This isn't a great answer, but with recording, you always get what you pay for. What are your goals for the project? Are you looking for something to release, or to demo?

Something to release. I know good recording is expensive, but I was hoping to find a 'hidden gem;' something someone might know about that isn't necessarily mainstream.

Ashley Peacock has a startup recording studio over in Norwood in an old church. It's the studio where Over the Rhine practices. His rates are very reasonable, since he's just getting started.
E-mail me salinaunderground (at) gmail and I can get you in touch with him for a quote, if you want.
He's also an excellent vocal coach.

We just started an ongoing listing for local studios here: http://cincymusic.com/resources/local-recording-studios
Let us know if any of these studios should be removed, or if any others should be added!

We've been happy with Candyland studios. Price is good and we've never had any issues with the quality.

I would look for a freelance audio engineer. Perhaps Matt Vollet or Chad Wahlbrink. I tracked a record with Chad and it turned out great. He charges $75/day for tracking, $40/song for mixing, and $10/song for mastering.

Skeetones have used Chris Schmidt for all of their recording needs, and haven't had any complaints. He's very affordable, and easy to work with! Not sure where his studio is located now, he just moved from the Mason area. 513-404-0810.
