The Driving Rain was born out of the performance of early musical works by Brenton Giesey in early 2008; which would later become the base for their later material. Brenton and drummer Andrew Erickson grew up together and honed their craft leading worship at their home church in Northern Kentucky. Both were drawn to the stylings of alternative rock and were influenced by bands such as U2, Switchfoot, Coldplay, and MuteMath. Bassist Drew Nagel joined the band in 2009 providing a much needed musical depth to the band with his signature bass style. The band hit the scene in 2010 performing for churches and at local Cincinnati area venues. In March 2011, they released a free sampler called A New Dawn EP on Noisetrade and their website. This EP established their style of straight-forward, honest, and emotionally-charged alternative rock. The Driving Rain spent the summer of 2011 recording their debut studio EP and crafting their eclectic and exciting live show. Released in early October 2011, Storm EP is a comprehensive five song record that explores the ups and downs of life and resonates with a gleam of hope. Produced by Brandon Weaver, this record is great starting point for this young band. Even though the record doesn't quite capture the live essence of The Driving Rain, it is a great listen and beckons the listener to pay attention to this touching alt rock outfit.
