The band consists of eleven members; bass, guitar, drums, keyboards, two female vocalists, male vocalist, and a four member horns section (soprano/alto/tenor/bari saxophone and trumpet). They can be seen playing at galas, proms, festivals, bars and restaurants all over town. While The Black Ties are primarily a cover band, they have three sets worth of original material, pulling inspiration from classic funk, rock and jazz artists. Their first album, A Formal Affair, was released in January 2016.
The band formed in January 2015 under the leadership of Alex Foley. Eight of the eleven members studied under musical directors Charles Ferrara and Danny Manning at Walnut Hills High School. All members pull from a wide variety of backgrounds in the arts; jazz ensembles, theatre, show choir, and musicals. This diversity pulls together to create a versatile and high-energy performing group.
