SSD Engage is an electronic band from Cincinnati, Ohio, comprised of spOOked (Michael Bennett 27), S.P.R.Y. (Narayan Choudury 29), and Disabletron (Jon Willingham 28. They come from diverse musical backgrounds that make up the band’s melting pot of sound from self styled 8-bit sounds from retro video game consoles and original electronic beats. The addition of a DJ mixer to the live performance brings the organic element of a band setting into the new music paradigm of electronic sound.
Narayan and Jon have been making music together in the Cincinnati local scene since 2001 with the band Bluepoint. While together, Bluepoint was the runner up of the Bogart’s High School Battle of the Band and winner of the Pepsi Jamming on Main Rematch in 2003. Former members include the current guitarist for Cincinnati based Walk the Moon. Seven years later in 2010, Jon and Narayan reconnected over their newfound interests in electronic music and audio production and began to make music as S.P.R.Y. and Disabletron and started their DIY studio and electronic music label, Smoking Mirrors.
Michael Bennett knew Narayan from high school and joined them in early 2012 to work on writing some music, bringing the experience of many years with bands and his solo project, spOOked. Coming from a guitarist background himself and also moving to digital mediums with his independent work, his contribution brought the band together as a new whole and SSD Engage was born.
Since then SSD has played live concerts across the eastern United States and across the world through internet webshows. Artists SSD has played with to date include: Trey Frey, Knife City, Auxcide, Mail Order Monsters, Awesome Force, Void Vision and locally known The Mark and Friends and The Last Troubadour.
