Evade The Adversaries started in 2008 with a mission to bring new and refreshing music to the local music scene. They provided Cincinnati with heavy breakdowns and harmonic vocal patterns to provide a unique, post-hardcore style; at the same time, delivering pop-punk-esque choruses that managed to blend in very well to their sound. Playing with powerhouse bands such as I See Stars, We Came As Romans, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, and Our Last Night, they quickly developed a name for themselves in the local area. But in Mid 2009, they decided they would take a break.
After a long hiatus, the band was revitalized in Winter of 2010 and started writing music again. With the departures of their former vocalist and lead guitarist, new additions were to be made. By adding Billy Zimpelman on lead guitar, one of the most talented young guitarists in the tri-state area, ETA was soon to have a fresh, more fully developed sound. Soon after, Justin Lehman filled out the band by joining as their bassist, replacing former bassist Matt Russell, as he decided to take the new frontman position. Drew Fitzgerald, one of the only two original members of the band, continued his position as rhythm guitarist and clean vocalist. Drew’s powerful, yet melodic, voice has helped put ETA on the map. Drummer Keith Carpenter, other remaining original member, can be heard accompanying almost every chorus with great background vocals and harmonies. Keith Carpenter is the backbone of this 5-piece pop-core (pop-punk/hardcore) band with extremely unique and technical fills on the drums.
In November of 2011, vocalist Matt Russell decided to leave the band and pursue other interests. In December of 2011, Jon Ingle was named the new frontman for ETA. He adds a huge vocal range to the band, both screaming and singing, and is very fun to watch on stage. He knows how to keep a crowd on their feet.
The mission for Evade The Adversaries has not changed since day one. Turning heads with every show they play and becoming one of the most well-known bands in Cincinnati. Coming out of a region with a strong hardcore following that has proven to be a hotbed of musical talent (Attack Attack!, Miss May I, The Devil Wears Prada) in the past. They're just getting started, and won’t be stopping anytime soon. They aren’t just another local band trying to accomplish the impossible, they are Evade The Adversaries.
ETA has shared the stage with these amazing bands:
